Michaelin Otis
Michaelin Otis is a nationally known artist, workshop leader, art show juror and author.
Animals and people are her favorite subjects with her goal being motion and emotion… taking the viewer on a journey through the painting, then leading their attention to the center of interest. Otis designs her paintings with shapes of value and color, similar to designing an abstract. Michaelin makes some of her own paper. She may add charcoal to pieces to bring out more detail and the subject may not be seen without a closer look.
“I have developed a technique of texturing a rigid surface, painting it with watercolor, and varnishing the final painting. It appears to be oil, but has the transparency only watercolor can achieve.”
Michaelin Otis has won numerous awards in juried shows across the country and has written articles for several magazines including, ‘Watercolor’ and ‘Artist Magazine’. Her artwork recently has been featured in ‘Western Art Collector’ and ‘Southwest Art’. Her well received book, ‘Watercolor for the Fun of It – Painting People’ was published in 2005. Otis has also illustrated 10 children’s books.
Michaelin Otis owned an art gallery and teaching studio in Minnesota for 18 years and currently lives in Arizona.
